Coach Paul Baur Coach Ken Key

Welcome to the Westminster Academy Track and Field Home Page for the upcoming 2010 track season. Here we hope you will find all the information you are looking for with regard to the WA Track and Field Program.

God has blessed us with a wonderful facility, on which we are privileged to train and work with our own team, and to host other schools in great competitive opportunities.

On the left side of this page you will find links to addition pages: such as meet information about our home meets and other South Florida track and field events, information for our team members and track parents, information about our history and school records.

Sean Lyden was recently named Middle School Head Coach and varsity distance coach.  Sean was a multiple state champion in his career as a runner at Westminster.  He won the state crown in cross country his senior year, and followed that up with state championships in both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters on the track that following spring season of his senior year.  He went on to captain the cross country teams as Samford University, before settling into career as a writer and a salesperson.  Sean and his wife Jennifer and two children recently moved back to South Florida to enroll their children at WA, and to permit Sean to return to his alma mater and coach distance runners.  Welcome home, Sean.

Who We Are:

The Westminster Academy Track and Field Teams were founded by Coach Ken Key in 1975 and 1976. Under the direction of Coach Key, Westminster Academy Track and Field teams have now won 5 State Championships, and 3 State Runner-up titles. In his 35 years at the head of the program, WA teams have won 40 district championships. More than 20 athletes have won a total exceeding 35 individual and relay state championship titles.

Coach Paul Baur competed in track and field and a season of cross country in high school in Louisiana. He threw javelin at LSU and at the University of Florida. Paul served as an assistant track coach for two years at Malone College in Canton, Ohio, while earning his Masters Degree. Coach Baur teaches Bible classes at WA, were he also heads the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program. On May 5, 2008, Paul and Ashley became the proud and happy parents of Brady Baur, likely a future decathlete, and future teammate of Hagan Kainoa Key, Coach Key's first grandson, born in December, 2007.  In June of 2009, Paul Baur was chosen to be the Athletic Director for Westminster Academy for the 2009-2010 school year.

Westminster teams under Coach Baur have earned a reputation for strong competition and excellent sportsmanship, including the 2005 girls team which won Coach Baur his first district championship title, and the 2007-2008 boys teams which finished third in the state meet in 2007, and are the reigning state champions in 2008. In four years his athletes have broken nearly half of the school records, including the 2007 state champions 4 x 400 boys relay.
