Laura Blake ’86 Murphy, recently released her first publication, a children’s Christmas book entitled, My Little Messenger. Laura, who practiced as an attorney and is now a stay at home mom, was inspired by the popular Christmas tradition and book, Elf on the Shelf. She wanted to create something similar, but with a Christ-centered focus. My Little Messenger is based on her own family. This delightful tale features a little girl (her daughter Molly), who takes an angel from the top of the Christmas tree to her room one night, and when she wakes up, the angel is gone. She discovers that her angel travels to heaven every night to speak with God then returns to her side the next morning.
One of the greatest blessings that has come out of Laura authoring this book are the many platforms she has now been given to present the good news of Christ. A few weeks from now she will have a reading and book signing at her local Barnes and Noble. Laura says that this book has led to many conversations about Christ. She will be reading the book at her daughter’s public elementary school, and have another opportunity to share the real meaning of Christmas.
Laura credits her education at Westminster Academy for preparing her to boldly proclaim her faith. “The biblical worldview classes that I was able to take at WA, that would not have been offered at a non-Christian school, were truly instrumental in giving me the foundation of Christian values and principles that I have continued to carry with me throughout my life.”
Laura currently lives with her husband Dan, in Virginia with their four children, ages ranging from 7 to 19.
