In our quest to provide our students with the most advanced academic training available, Westminster Academy has added a new honors course on Leadership.
The focus of the leadership honors course is promoting personal growth and the development of leadership potential. Students will learn what makes a great leader, what each student’s leadership potential is, and how they may enhance leadership ability. The course will guide the students to discover new insights, examine key leadership skills, and build greater leadership awareness and potential. The course will also prepare the students for leadership roles in the Church, in the community, in college, and in their future profession. One key focus for the class will be training the students in effective public speaking. Students may qualify for certification in Leadership through Barry University.
The instructor, Mr. Dennis Lucas, is the father of 2011 graduate, Brandy Lucas. Mr. Lucas served for many years on the Dale Carnegie Corporation staff, training adults in the areas of leadership, team building, interpersonal skills, public speaking, communications and time management. Currently Mr. Lucas is a faculty member at Nova Southeastern University serving as Professor of Executive Education at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. He brings hands-on experience having consulted with major corporations such as J.M. Family Enterprises, Cisco Systems and AT&T. One of the reasons Dennis cites for wanting to teach this course at WA is the success that he sees in Brandy. Reflecting on her experience at WA, Mr. Lucas said he wanted to give back for all that Brandy gained from being at WA.
